Ludic Loops

United Kingdom

Ludic Loops is a duo that enchants the audience with a mix of Irish, English and Scottish songs and tunes as well as original works.

In a ludic loop, we creatively fill out expressive scope, supplement functional action through playful trying and experimenting and thereby experience satisfaction and even euphoria. Listeners to these versatile musicians can witness this process live and in real time as they fuse the masterful technical command of their instruments and voices with their own ideas, inspiration, narratives and experiences in their unique, signature sound.

Dan Plews has been a musician, songwriter and music teacher for more than 20 years. He teaches at Northampton College (UK) and founded Aortas in 2011. With this concept he has helped hundreds of experienced and aspiring songwriters in eight European countries and two languages to express themselves better in words and music.

His earliest musical influences were his father – who played guitar at home and sang to him before heading out to perform most nights of the week – and the odd folk legend or two in transit who stayed at his childhood home. They were later joined by the likes of Nick Drake, Chaka Khan and Elbow, among others, and music fans will easily recognize them in Dan’s own songs. He tours Europe and the USA as a solo artist, in a duo or with a band. Contemporary folk stars such as Mercury Folk Award winner Eliza Carthy or BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award winner Jon Boden appreciate him as a musical comrade-in-arms on stage and in the studio. His trademarks are his powerful voice, his characteristic guitar playing and his unique, personal lyrics.

Dan Plews comes to us on March 18th with the outstanding musician Guy Fletcher, with whom he also performs under the name Dansmall.

Fletcher has been a violinist and drummer in various bands in the British folk scene since the early 1990s. He was a permanent member of Little Johnny England, Tickled Pink and most recently Trad Arrr. He has worked with Fairport Convention and Steeleye Span founding member Span Ashley Hutchings since 2005 on various projects – from The Morris On Band to The Lark Rise Band to Ashley’s latest project Dylancentric, which maybe is the only Bob Dylan tribute band, Bob itself accepts.
