The Band of Heathens (USA)
duende – [duen-de] (noun) 1. A quality of inspiration and passion. 2. A heightened sense of emotion, expression and authenticity. 3. A spirit.
“Duende” is the title of The Band of Heathen’s fifth studio album (and eighth overall), marks their tenth anniversary as a group, and it certainly applies to its overall theme about the collective search for connection and communion in a technology-fueled world increasingly splintered, distracted and lonely.
As band co-founder Ed Jurdi explains: “It’s the essence of the artist.” Or as partner Gordy Quist says: “It’s a word we don’t have an equivalent for in English: artistically. That’s where we tried to set the bar, to do what this band does best.”
Indeed, “Duende” lives up to those high ideals, a stylistically diverse effort, that takes a leap beyond their last, more acoustic, introspective effort, 2013’s Sunday Morning Record, with an eclectic batch of material that shows where The Band of Heathens has been, but more importantly, where they are going. There are high-energy rockers like the Keith Richards-Chuck Berry guitars and barrelhouse piano in “Trouble Came Early” as well as the Grateful Dead-by-way-of J.J. Cale Oklahoma boogie in “Keys to the Kingdom”, The Band-meets-New Orleans honky tonk blues of “Sugar Queen”, the British Invasion harmonies laced through “Deep is Love”, the south-of-the-border flavor of “Road Dust Wheels” and the New Riders pedal steel country twang of “Green Grass of California”, an ode to the more potent strains of sensimilla on the dispensary shelf and a fervent plea to “legalize it”.
“Duende” also touches on some of The Band of Heathen’s favorite topics, from the sacrifices of a life lived on the road (“All I’m asking”) to the limits of materialism (“Keys to the Kingdom”), social media absorption (“Cracking the Code”) and a moving depiction of Mexican immigration in an age of increased discrimination (“Road Dust Wheels”).
We are looking very much forward having this band on our festival. It will be a new experience for the audiance seeing The Band of Heathens in Bonfeld in stage.
Ed Jurdi – Guitars, Keys, Vocals
Gordy Quist – Guitars, Vocals
Trevor Nealon – Keys, Vocals
Richard Millsap –Drums, Vocals
Scott Davis –Bass, Vocals
These three artists have had interesting and diverse careers in music, since they first worked together in the early 90s as vocalists in Sir Cliff Richard’s band. Having worked individually with many of the top global names in music, they have now joined forces once again to bring you a special entertainment.
The concept of the FRONTM3N show is to present an evening of unique acoustic arrangements of classic songs in an intimate ‘unplugged’ theatre environment; songs that everyone knows and loves, and every song with its own story, as part of the musical journey of the three FRONTM3N.·
As well as writing for musical theatre, Peter Howarth went on to star in London’s West End in the Orbison musical, before joining The Hollies as lead vocalist in 2004. Peter has also written and recorded his own solo projects, culminating in his latest album Evermore – Songs Of Love & Inspiration.
Mick Wilson has enjoyed a busy career as a session singer, working with everyone from Lionel Richie to Alice Cooper and ELO. He also produces and composes music for TV with numerous credits to his name. Mick took on the role of frontman for 10cc more than 15 years ago, covering lead vocals, percussion, guitar and keyboard duties. In 2011 Mick released his debut solo album So The Story Goes.
After his time with Sir Cliff, Pete Lincoln went on in 1996 to join the eccentric English band Sailor as frontman – a role that he enjoyed for almost a decade – before ‘jumping ship’ and taking up the position of frontman/bassist with Glam Rock Legends The Sweet. Pete also composes for film and TV and in 2014 finally released a debut CD of his own songs entitled Soul Searching, followed by his second solo album Heartbeat in 2016.
Songs you can expect to hear include The Sweet’s Love Is Like Oxygen, Fox On The Run and Ballroom Blitz, Sir Cliff’s Devil Woman and Carrie, 10cc’s I’m Not In Love and Dreadlock Holiday,· The Hollies’ He Ain’t Heavy (He’s My Brother)and The Air That I Breathe, Roy Orbison’s Pretty Woman, You Got It and I Drove All Night, Sailor’s Glass Of Champagne and Girls, Girls, Girls . . . plus a selection of original songs . . . and much more!

Django 3000 (Bavaria)
Gitze & Band (Deutschland)
Wendrsonn, Grachmusikoff – and Gitze (Foto: Edgar Layher). Schwabenrock has its special place at our festival, because it compairs to our region, to our courtyard and to our festival. Gitze is a Singer with an exceptionell good band. With him on stage you see Kurt “Kuddel” Stahl, Werner Müller, Boonkid Jackson and Helmut Nothum.
It is a pleasure and an honor for the musicians to play the songs of a south german legend: Wolle Kriwanek. Perls of Rock and Blues, sung in a certain german dialect.
The Levellers (Großbritannien)
Great news! After their furious performances in 2012 and 2014 in Bonfeld and Bad Wimpfen, the Levellers are back playing at a blacksheep event as one of our favourite bands ever.
Whenever the Levellers (Photo: Michaela Keicher) are here, they tear their audience with their passionate mix of Celtic Folk Rock and Hot Punk. Mark Chadwick and Jeremy Cunningham met each other – where else – in a pub. With the drummer Charlie Heather, the violinist Jon Sevink and the harmonica, guitar and mandolin player Alan Miles, they founded the Levellers and released their first album in 1990. “A Weapon called the Word” belongs to the few albums that brought it to gold without having ever been in the charts. Alan Miles left the band, Simon Friend came. The success remained loyal to the musicians, who in the meantime were reinforced by the keyboardist Matt Savage. Their album “Levelling The Land” is an all-time classic.
BBC 2 honored the Levellers 2011 with the “Roots Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards”. With their furious stage show, the Levellers are twenty years after their foundation one of the most popular live bands at the big festivals in Europe. We are looking forward them again – and we know many Levellers-fans in the region with us.

Mrs. Greenbird (Germany)
The folk pop duo Mrs. Greenbird from Cologne (Germany) provided one of the very rare music business success stories. Starting off as wedding singers in 2006, singer Sarah Nuecken and guitarist Steffen Brueckner played their way through bars, restaurants and laundromats to chisel their skills and build a solid fanbase. Mrs. Greenbird’s music is multifaceted, blending their strong harmony vocals with their very own musical style – they summed up in one simple word: Singersongwritercountryfolkpop. Fans often compare them to Scarlet and Gunnar from ABC’s “Nashville” or reference them as “the german Johnny and June”. But decide for yourself.
Their debut album „Mrs. Greenbird“ scored 2013’s first No.1 in the German album charts, and was awarded gold with about 170.000 copies sold. Also it received two ECHO-Award nominations. (German Grammies) Mrs. Greenbird masterfully knows how to delight their fans at their live shows as well. Their 2013 tour was almost entirely sold-out and received the LEA-Award for the best club-tour. It was followed by a large number of critically acclaimed festival shows. Altogether more than 80,000 fans witnessed the band’s extraordinary live qualities. Cologne newspaper “Kölnische Rundschau” raved: “Sarah Nücken presented herself with a voice that gets under your skin from the very first beat. Haunting, crystal clear, with flattering heights, and most of all with perfect intonation, she made the songs pure joy to listen to. Her congenial music and life companion Steffen Brückner naturally provided his part, blending his guitar into a wonderful, harmonious unity with Nücken’s voice.”
Even international stars like Katie Melua, Anastacia and Academy Award winner Tim Robbins fell under their spell and invited them to join their shows in Germany. For their second album „Postcards“, Mrs. Greenbird teamed up with multi-platinum producer Marshall Altman to shape their musical vision.
To capture the raw and authentic sound their music stands for, all songs were recorded with a live band in the historic RCA Studio A, where once Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton recorded their songs back in the days.
They tested the new songs in a sold out show at the famous „bluebird café“ and received raving feedback.
They came home with an album that draws from the good old american styles while displaying their unique style at the same time. Short and sometimes quirky stories are revealed throughout their twelve original compositions to encourage people to find the courage to write their own story.
In spring and summer 2015, the band played an extensive tour and festivals shows with a full band setup only to return with a back-to-the-roots duo-tour named „the squirrel and the brontosaurus“ in fall. Currently Mrs. Greenbird is working on album #3, playing selected shows and festivals in 2017 to try out new material. Great things are coming! Stay tuned…
Widely known for their explosive live performances, Keywest are a five piece Dublin based rock band comprising of Dublin & London born lads. Dublin members include singer Kav ( Andy Kavanagh ) and Glove ( Andrew Glover ) who plays Keys and rhythm guitar. After starting the band, childhood friends Kav & Glove began playing in pubs around Dublin, they took the name Keywest after a trip to Florida for a gig. English lads Jimi Lock on lead guitar and drummer H (Harry Sullivan) were added following a similar trip to Los Angeles where the lads became good friends and stayed in contact.
After making the decision for the English duo to move over to Ireland, other obstacles became apparent to the band. One such obstacle was how a difficult move to Ireland could work, financially. Gigs were few and far between for a new band so Keywest in traditional fashion, avoided the slow gig scene and took to busking on the streets. Wise or unwise the band began honing their sound and style on the streets and quickly became famous for busking on Shop Street in Galway and Grafton Street in Dublin.
In 2012 the band released their debut album “The Message” which has since been awarded Triple Platinum Status. In 2015 the 5 piece released their highly antipated follow up album ” JOYLAND” which shot straight into the Number 1 spot for a number of weeks.
The theme of the new album perfectly echoes the sound of Keywest as you hear them on the streets. Raw and Rhythmical. Dark and moody Americana songs along side acoustic- driven , floor-filling festival sing alongs!! This album was written on the street and with those experiences behind it. Songs designed to make you stop and listen. Songs like “Joyland” , “Reaper at the Door” & “Soldier On” tell of the bands journey while tracks like “iGeneration”, “All My Mistakes” & “ Carousel” will have a crowd singing back on the first listen. Now an mutli-award winning band including Hotpress Magazines award for “ MOST PROMISING “, Keywest’s fanbase has grown exponentially on social media and their numbers continue to sky rocket across the board with each passing day.
